The Joy of Music

The Prayer is a beautiful song written by David Foster (music) and Carole Bayer Sager (lyrics). The  well known duet, sung by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion, became popular all over the world. "Lead us to a place, guide us with your grace, to a place where we'll be safe." Is that plea genuine? Will God answer the prayer? Is God even moved by music?

Reading through the complete book of Zephaniah (3 chapters) it's apparent sin is simply rampant, evil is everywhere and destruction is due. Then, in chapter 3:17 comes the promise: "The LORD, your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing." What changed? Definitely not God! 

Why would God sing over us? Because He delights in us! The world has a messy heritage of blood and guts, both biblically and secularly, but Zephaniah, the writer of the book, promises that God will restore a humble remnant when He returns as a Mighty Warrior among His people. AND, He's going to sing over us! What a blessing, what a benediction! What a love!

And, yes, He will lead us to a place, guide us with His grace, to a place where we'll be safe - because He delights in us and His promises are guaranteed!
