Music Ministry Update

Published April 8, 2025
Hey church family,

Just a wee update regarding our church's music ministry leadership.

After two fantastic years of being on staff at Northcross Church, Jess will be finishing in her role as Music Ministry Coordinator next month. Her final Sunday will be Mother’s Day (11th May).

Now, it’s one thing to become friends with your colleagues. That’s cool. But even cooler is for a personal friend to come join your staff team at work! So I’ve thoroughly enjoyed and been grateful for being able to work with Jess. I’ll definitely miss having her around the office on a day-to-day basis.

She’s been doing such an awesome job and is such a great person to have around, so we’re super sad to see her go from our staff team, but she’ll still be serving on the team as a volunteer - phew!

During my time as a minister at Northcross, we’ve been so blessed to have top notch people running the music ministry - so we know how important it is to hire the right people for the job. With that in mind, we’re not in a rush to fill the position straight away. We want to be sure to hire the right person! Here is our temporary plan for the foreseeable future:

In this season of transition, our primary focus is to solidify the music ministry by ensuring that the people serving in these teams are doing well, and that they are equipped to lead us in music on Sundays. No lofty schemes for growth, no huge ventures, or big dreams - all great things, but for the near future we’ll look to solidify the fundamentals and go into 2026 with a strong foundation.

After careful consideration, we have decided to tweak the ministry leadership structure just a little bit to focus on essential functions.

As of Tuesday the 13th of June, Gordon Venter and Adrienne Barry will be carrying out ministry responsibilities ‘on the ground’ as Music Ministry Associates. Between the two of them, they will cover the bases to make sure we have a healthy music team week by week.

I will be taking on the leadership responsibility of the music ministry - all this really means is that the music ministry will come under my portfolio as ‘pastor’. This structure allows me to provide leadership oversight while Gordon and Adrienne, supported by our fantastic volunteers, manage the day-to-day operations of our music ministry.

Thank you Jess, thank you Gordon & Adrienne, and thank you all for making our music ministry (and church) what it is!

Nga mihi nui,

Hangyul Cho Lead Pastor
