Mistakes can be expensive.
Just ask someone in business who has made a bad investment or a computer operator who deletes important data. Errors like these can be very costly.
However, there is a much more expensive mistake.
Everyone should be allowed to have their own beliefs. You may have your own idea about life and death, and life after death.
But what if you are mistaken? The most expensive mistake is to be wrong about life and death, and life after death.
Please read what God says about…
1. OUR SITUATION: We Are Sinners
NO ONE has ever lived a life completely free from impure thoughts, words, and actions – except Jesus Christ, the Son of God. No one has ever lived a sinless life. God’s Word the Bible states:
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)”
There are no exceptions. We all fall short of God’s perfect holiness. I know I have thought, said, and done things which are wrong. I have yet to meet a person who has not lied during their lifetime. Everyone sins. Our sin separates us from God. God is holy. There is absolutely no evil in Him. God cannot sin, nor can He tolerate sin. Our sin offends and repulses God.
“But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.” (Isaiah 59:2)
“For the wages of sin is death…” (Romans 6:23)”
The wages (or payment we deserve for our sin) is death. This means separation from God forever.
We cannot earn our way to heaven. Good deeds cannot close the gulf between sinners and God.
God clearly reveals that the way to heaven is…
“Not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:9)
At our best we still fall infinitely short of God’s goodness and holiness.
Even if we could reform ourselves from today onward, even if we never sinned again (an impossibility), our past sin would prevent us from entering heaven.
We are far from God. There is no way we can gain everlasting life and happiness by ourselves. A place in heaven cannot be earned.
2. GOD’S SALVATION: Only Jesus Christ Can Save Us
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
Jesus Christ, God the Son, came down from heaven, was born of a virgin, lived a life without sin and died upon a cross to save us. He willingly accepted the punishment for our sin. He died so we could have everlasting life. He rose again and returned to heaven making it possible for us to follow Him there.
We must believe in Jesus Christ.
We must realise that we are sinners separated from God with no hope of gaining everlasting life by ourselves.
Then turn from sin to God, and believe that Jesus Christ can and will save us. Believing that Jesus exists is not enough. We must trust Him to bring us into God’s family.
“BELIEVE in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved…” (Acts 16:31)
“He came to that which was His own, but His own did not receive him. Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:11-12)
“Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life.” (John 6:47)
3. YOUR SELECTION: We Need To Believe
Each and every human being has a choice – everlasting life or everlasting torment; you too must choose.
“Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” (John 3:18)
“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.” (John 3:36)
Everlasting life is God’s promise to all who put their trust in Jesus Christ.
Please carefully consider what you have just read.
Are you absolutely sure you are going to heaven when you die?
Will you go to the grave with your sin forgiven or unforgiven?
If you do not want to make the worst possible mistake, then trust Jesus Christ to take away your sin and guilt.
Be sorry for the wrongs you have committed.
Place your faith in Jesus and He will give you a new start and a new future.
You may want to say something to God like…
“Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I am sorry for my sin. I realise it separates me from you and will keep me out of heaven. I know I am unable to rescue myself. I now receive you as My Saviour. I trust you to forgive my sin and to give me eternal life. Thank you for saving me”
Please choose salvation today, because your life on earth…
“… appears for a little time, and then vanishes away.” (James 4:14)
