The Journey So far

Nineteen thirty six saw the beginning of the present church in a home adjoining a shop on the main street of Brown’s Bay. Mrs Betty Everett began the fellowship with a small number of believers who were living in the district. Each summer the numbers built up when Christians came to their batches for the holidays.

Mr Bert Thatcher gave a plot of valuable land in Anzac Road for the construction of a permanent meeting hall called the Brown’s Bay Gospel Hall. After the completion of the first building another on the same site became necessary as the fellowship grew. A Christian bookshop was added to this building in 1978, providing a necessary outlet for Christian literature and a place for advice and counselling.

With great vision and faith, in 1987, a twelve and a half acre property was purchased on East Coast Road. In 1991 the Anzac Road property was sold. The church met in the Northcross Intermediate School hall, for one year while the new building was erected on the present site by a contractor, Mr Keith Patterson. Much work of painting, building fences, and cleaning up was done by volunteer labour. It was a great occasion in October 1993 with over 500 people present, that this building was opened by Mr Maskell senior. The land was farmed to some considerable time and later development began. Sections were sold to defray expenses and a sizeable remaining lot has been kept for the future. Mr Max Lane and Mr Geoff Maunsell both played a significant part in this venture, supported by the majority of the church members, who numbered about 100.

In all of this we are grateful to God for His provision, guidance and direction.
